African Union peacekeeping mission says Somali army is capable of taking over the security responsibility of their country

The African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia, ATMIS, has praised the armed forces of Somalia for their achievements in the security operations to liberate Al-Shabab terrorist groups from the country.

The ATMIS operation said that the Somali forces have demonstrated their offensive capabilities, which enabled them to take control of areas that have been in the hands of Al-Shabab for more than 10 years.




ATMIS said that the ongoing military operations are proof that the Somali army has the ability to lead the operations against Al-Shabab and can take over the responsibility of the security of their country.

“ATMIS insists that a professionally trained and well-equipped Somali army is truly a game-changer in the war against terrorism in Somalia,” ATMIS said in a statement.




At the end of 2024, the armed forces of Somalia are set to take over the security responsibility of the country, with the end of the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

The government of Somalia now has highly trained soldiers who have been trained for the past five years, and more than five thousand soldiers have been trained in Eritrea, who have not yet been returned to the country.
