The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, James Swan, congratulates all Somalis on the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The UN envoy said the Somali people would benefit from unity, tolerance, forgiveness and reconciliation this month, and said he hoped Somali leaders would be guided by unity.

The month of Ramadan has come as Somali leaders have been at loggerheads over the election and fueled by a law yesterday allowing the Somali corrupt parliament to give the electoral commission led by Halimo Yare two years to deliver free elections. When Halimo Yare failed to arrange the 8th February 2021 elections, she works for outgoing president Farmajo.

The international community has not yet commented on the Somali corrupt parliament’s decision, but has previously underlined that it will not support anything other than the September 17 2020 election agreement.
