Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Jubaland President Ahmed Islam met for the first time in Dhusamareb since the political crisis between the central government and Jubaland erupted. The meeting, which took place at the Galmudug State House in Dhusamareb, the residence of President Farmajo, came after efforts since last night to bring the two sides together.

According to our source, President Farmajo’s advisor told Somali Times that the meeting was co-chaired by Prime Minister Khaire, Galmudug President Ahmed Qorqor and HirShabelle Waare President who worked hard to bring the two sides together before the opening of the general assembly. No details have been released about the meeting, but people close to it said it was mostly a goodwill showdown before the opening of the conference of federal and state leaders.

It was the first time the two officials had met face to face since the federal government declared Ahmed Madobe’s election in Jubaland null and void. One of the things that is expected to be registered in Dhusamareb is to resolve the dispute between the central government and Ahmed Madobe, which is part of the challenges facing the opening of the conference of Heads of Federal and State Governments.
