According to information obtained by Somali Times from reliable sources, there was a disagreement between Puntland President Said Deni and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble during last night and this morning’s meeting.

Puntland President Said Deni, according to our sources, has rejected a request from Prime Minister Roble to appoint a regional election commission.

Somali Prime Minister Roble has called on Puntland President Said Deni to implement the remaining provisions of the September 17 election agreement, Puntland of which has yet to be appointed by the regional government.

Said Deni rejected the offer to first appoint the commission and then convene a final consultative meeting to review the agreement reached in Somalia’s September 17th elections.

Prime Minister Roble is pressuring the Puntland president to appoint the commission so that elections can take place in Somalia before February 8, 2021. It is also said that members of the international community are putting pressure on President Said Deni to make significant concessions and appoint members of the Puntland Electoral Commission. It is expected that the two sides will meet again to resolve the stalemate over the appointment of the Puntland Electoral Commission.
