Somali Minister of Information Osman Abukar Dubbe held a press conference in Mogadishu to rule out the possibility that the government agency is out of date and illegal.

“If the government agency is not working, who will talk about the maritime case in ICJ? If the government agency is not working, who will keep us safe? If the government agency is not working, who will help the drought? Who will pay the soldiers and the workers? But the government is working and on the other hand it is ready to hold the 2021 elections,” said Minister Dubbe.

“You know what Al-Shabaab is doing there and the raid on the border is killing children,” he said, referring to the deployment of government troops in Gedo region. “The government has always been responsible for security. The aid has been delivered and you know that the Minister of Aid Khadijo Mohamed Diriye has recently returned, and about 50 aid vehicles have reached the region,” he added.

”Speaking about the recently announced, the council of foreign agents has announced the destruction of Somalia’s government,” he said. “The Somali people were shocked to hear of this. But I do not want to see former presidents working with foreign agents, running around in anti-election coalitions.”

Opposition politicians have repeatedly accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo avoiding the 2021 elections. However, Minister Dubbe said that the debate between the opposition politicians was not meaningful and that the government was working to ensure the security of the country and other tasks ahead of it, while preparing for 2021 elections.
