Popular Somali singer Farhia Ahmed Adawe, known as Farhia Fiska, has accused her husband of severely torturing her, saying he beat her and locked her in their home in Hargeisa for hours, putting her life in danger.

In an interview with the outlet media on Tuesday, Farhia said that her husband, Mubarik Ahmed Yusuf, known in the music world as “Mubaarik October”, attacked her and kept her in a room for nearly four hours, where she said he tortured her.

What happened to me was not a small thing. I did not expect it,” Farhia said.

“There is no healthy part of my body. He strangled me, and he wanted to kill me. My throat still hurts.”

Farhia said that Mubarik was arrested after the incident, but released on bail. She added that she had decided to take legal action and was currently working on presenting her case to the court.

She also said that her health had now stabilized following her injuries.

The allegations sparked widespread outrage on Somali social media, with many calling for the accused to be held accountable and for increased protection for women who experience domestic violence.

The couple lived together in Hargeisa at the time of the incident. Mubarik October has not yet officially commented on the allegations against him.

Mubarik, a young musician, has previously said in interviews that he has divorced six wives, with Farhia being his seventh. He has also said that he is a jealous person, and the incident itself was said to have been sparked by jealousy.

Domestic violence remains a sensitive issue that is often underreported, with women’s rights organizations long calling for stronger laws and systems to support victims.
