Somalia Foreign Minister calls on the OIC Member States to support debt cancellation





The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Ahmed Isse Awad delivered a speech at a meeting of the 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Member States, which opened on Friday in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi. In his speech, the minister stressed that Somalia is forever grateful to the OIC for the support and solidarity rendered to us throughout the years, particularly to it’s a commitment to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia.




The OIC for the first time held the meeting of the Somalia contact group in Mogadishu on 27 October last year. The organization also upgraded the humanitarian office in Somalia to full-fledged diplomatic office in recognition of the progress that Somalia has made. Somalia will host on 29-30 April of this year in Mogadishu intellectual counter-terrorism conference organized under the auspices of the OIC.

He appealed to the OIC member states to support cancellation of Somalia’s debt with immediate effect as has been resolved by the league of the Arab States and the African Union, for speedy reconstruction of Somalia and for ending terrorism and youth unemployment as a contribution factor, and called on them to contribute generously to the OIC development fund for Somalia.
