Somalia: Puntland MPs vote to remove speaker out of office, Governor Said Deni is behind

Garowe. The meeting of the 53 sitting MPs, 49 members voted for the dismissal of the speaker, while 4 members abstained, so the speaker’s office. 44 MPs filed a motion to dismiss the commissioner on Wednesday night, accusing him of committing violations of the Constitution and the Rules of Parliament.

The motion, reportedly pushed by the government, began after an unsolved rift between Governor Said Deni and the speaker of Abdi Hakim Dhobo. However, lawmakers who brought the motion cited the speaker’s dismissal for violating some of the provisions of the Constitution and Rules of Parliament.



On Wednesday, 4 people were killed, including 2 soldiers in Garowe town of Puntland in a standoff to impeach the speaker. The fierce clashes which left several other people injured started when the police forces and parliamentary body guards faced off last night, after the lawmakers filed a motion to remove the speaker from office.

Among the dead civilians is a prominent Garowe businessman identified as Dhigaweyne who was caught in the crossfire.

The house and was the source of the no-confidence motion that had been filed against the regional Governor Said Dani.
