The federal government of Somalia on Saturday welcomed the specially trained Gorgor troops, who have undergone advanced training in Turkey.

The troops were welcomed at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu this morning by the Commander of the Armed Forces, General Mohamed Tahliil Bihi, who addressed the gathering. Bihi announced that troops, part of the 9th Gorgor Commandos, will join the current operation in the country.

The commander of the ground forces said that they are confident in the training provided to these troops, and pointed out that they are required to serve their people. He also thanked the Turkish government for training its troops, as well as its continued support to the Federal Government of Somalia.

Turkey has in recent years focused on rebuilding the country’s armed forces, providing various trainings in Somalia and camps in the country.

However, the reception for the newly-trained Somali government comes at a time when the country is in a difficult period of transition for Somalia to take over African Union its own security.
