Suicide bombing misses Somali Prime Minister, but killed top army commanders.




More details are emerging from a suicide bombing in Galkayo today, where Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble was visiting. ”The blast was claimed by al-Shabab, which said in a statement that the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber who targeted Prime Minister Roble.

The blast at the Abdullahi Isse airport in the southern part of the city, where it was said to be heading for Roble, killed at least 15 people, including senior officials. The dead include:

1 -Commander of the 21st Division of the Somali National Army, General Abdiaziz Abdullahi (Qooje Dagaari).

2 -Colonel Muqtar Abdi Adan, Commander of the Armed Forces, Galmudug Division.

3 -Deputy Commander of Danab Forces, Galmudug Division, Dhamme Abdirahman Mire Ali.

4 – Former Mayor of Galkayo – Puntland Division, Mohamoud Yasin Ahmed (Tumeey).



The Commander of the Somali National Army, General Odowa Yusuf Rage, speaking to state-run media, confirmed the deaths of the officers and offered his condolences to the Somali National Army and the general public for the deaths of the officers and civilians.
