Jubaland security minister Abdirashid Janan who had been under arrest in Mogadishu has escaped from custody. Deputy Police Commissioner Zakia Hussein said in tweet Tuesday Janan who was arrested late last year vanished from custody under unclear circumstances. She called on the public to forward any information leading to his arrest. Janan’s escape comes barely two weeks after Jubaland and Puntland governor called for his release.

The two leaders called on the Federal Government in a communique following a meeting in Bosaso mid this month to release the minister. Amnesty International lauded Janaan’s arrest last year accusing him of human rights violations and possible crimes against humanity.
