The third agreement of the Dhusamareb conference will be abolished, reopening the new agreement and new negotiations.
The Presidents of Jubaland and Puntland administrations who met in Garowe, the capital of Puntland region yesterday agreed to attend a conference in Mogadishu. Presidents Ahmed Islam and Said Deni will attend a consultative meeting in the capital, which they say is “a political solution to the crisis over the conduct of the country’s elections.”
The conference in Mogadishu looks set to overturn everything previously agreed upon at the Dhusamareb third conference, and is now the first of its kind. Although Said Deni and Ahmed Islam said they had been more lenient with their tough stance against the Dhusamareb third conference, this was contradicted by the fact that they did not accept the conference and its outcome and demanded a new one.
During the meetings, they held telephone talks with the leaders of the federal government led by Farmajo and those of the regional government, and agreed to reach a unified solution to the situation in the country, especially the issues of the country’s elections.
“The Presidents also, during the Garowe conference, had telephone contact with the leaders of the federal government of Somalia and member states, which resulted in a consultative meeting in the Mogadishu,” it said. Villa Somalia did not confirm the phone call, but if it does, it means the President has accepted the new conference.
The regional leaders of the South West, Galmudug and HirShabelle issued a statement last night welcoming the Garowe conference and the call for a new conference, meaning they have accepted the Mogadishu conference and canceled the Dhusamareb third conference. The Mogadishu conference will bring together the two presidents, other regional leaders and Farmajo, who previously missed the recent consultative conference in Dhusamareb, and a political understanding can be reached.
