Troops captured in Beled-Hawo were relocated as no one knows their fate

The Somali government has reportedly deployed troops from the Jubaland administration in the Dolow district in the Gedo region late last night following heavy fighting in the town of Beled-Hawo between Jubaland and federal government forces on Monday.

Residents in Dolow told Somali Times that the trucks transported troops captured in Beled-Hawo to the army base near Dolow called Bundo-Garas.



The sources added that the troops will soon visit Somali government officials, who will soon be heading to Gedo region. The Somali government has not yet commented on the fate of the captured soldiers, but reports suggest they may soon be relocated to Mogadishu.

In Beled-Hawo district, where the troops were captured a day ago, was the scene of a deadly battle between forces under the command of the Jubaland security minister and those of the federal government deployed in Gedo region.



More than 30 of them were killed in the fighting, while at least 40 others were wounded, and some were taken to Mogadishu. Among those killed in Monday’s clashes were a member of the Jubaland and Somali government. Also 14 members of the same family been killed.

The situation in the Beled-Hawo town is now calm and Somali government forces are in the area. The Beled-Hawo district, where the troops were captured two days ago, was the scene of a deadly battle between forces under the command of the Jubaland security minister and those of the federal government deployed in the Gedo region.
