UAE Ambassador to Somalia non-diplomatic matter to visit the offices of top government officials on a daily basis

Somalia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Jamal Barrow has strongly criticized the behavior of international ambassadors based in Mogadishu, calling it a non-diplomatic matter to visit the offices of top government officials on a daily basis.

In a post on his Facebook page, Jamal Barrow noted that ambassadors roam through government offices without the knowledge of the foreign ministry.

”For example, they move around government offices at various levels without the knowledge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is the agency responsible for dealing with foreign diplomats. So far no one was able to send in the perfect solution,” said a statement from Somalia’s ambassador to Nigeria.

He also added, “In addition, the diplomatic process aims to send a message directly to the country’s top leaders by a foreign diplomat.”

Somalia’s ambassador to Nigeria also described the situation as ‘surprising’, adding that it was not even clear who was making the appointment.

“Another strange thing is that pictures of foreign diplomats meeting with the country’s top leaders are posted on social media every day. It is not known who will facilitate these appointments,” Jamal said in a statement.

Finally, he suggested that the issue be addressed, and called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop a code of conduct for foreign diplomats.

“In order to end this diplomatic chaos, the ministry must develop a code of conduct for diplomats operating in the country, and those who violate it will be held accountable, as is the case in other parts of the world.”

The statement comes as the May 15th elections have intensified the activities of international ambassadors to the country, particularly Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
