A high level Kenyan delegation has arrived in Mogadishu in the last few hours. The delegation is led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya Amb. Macharia Kamau, with their visit taking one day. According to reports, the Kenyan delegation met with officials from the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur Haji.

Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad told Somali Times that the two sides discussed ways to improve relations between Somalia and Kenya.

They also discussed bilateral co-operation and the resumption of Kenyan qat imports into Somalia, which has been suspended since the outbreak of the Coronavirus outbreak. The trip also coincides with a recent call by Kenyan qat traders for the government to reopen the border with Somalia.

Relations between Somalia and Kenya have been strained in recent years, as a result of a maritime case before the ICJ.
