Somali federal government Minister of Information Osman Abukar Dubbe said, ”What happened on February 19th in Mogadishu was a coup attempt.” He described it as “surprising” that someone was declaring that there was no government in the country, and that he was holding a press conference in front of the Somali presidential palace. ”What happened in Mogadishu on February 19 was an attempted coup.”

Dubbe said, ”I am the government here and the demonstrator said there is no government in the country. The person who organized and brought the wisdom is responsible for what happened that day,” he added.

He said such a move would not be accepted by the government, citing the Kenyan presidency as an example. ”What if the State House in Nairobi, where Uhuru Kenyatta resides, goes to four Tiknikos and says there is no president and no vice president? No, how could that be, the army would do its job,” said Minister Dubbe.

He said the Somali government forces would never accept such actions to destroy the state, and that they would always stand by the enemy. The clip comes a day after the union over other candidates called for a demonstration on Friday in a unknown square against President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
