The Asmara government has spoken for the first time about the rapprochement between Somalia and Ethiopia, following the Ankara agreement brokered by the Turkish government.
An official from the Eritrean Foreign Ministry, said that they are concerned about the agreement signed between Somalia and Ethiopia in Ankara.
Indicated that they consider the agreement to be ambiguous and unreliable, as he put it.
Eritrean Foreign Ministry revealed that they never expect Somalia to enter into such an agreement, underlining that they will consider relations with Somalia if it agrees to grant the Ethiopian government a waterway, which he described as a threat to the stability and public security of Eritrea.
Eritrean Foreign Ministry also spoke about the cooperation between Asmara and Mogadishu, especially their latest agreement, saying that it was based on protecting Somali waters.
“There was no specific agreement that the Eritrean government signed with Somalia, the latest agreement that Somalia, Eritrea and Egypt signed was to protect Somalia from Ethiopia, which coveted Somali waters,”
Eritrea is one of the countries that currently has good relations with Somalia, and has recently established new cooperation with corrupt President Hassan Sheikh .
