AU representative for Somalia meets with US ambassador to Mogadishu




The AU Special Representative for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, held a key meeting in Mogadishu today with the Acting US Ambassador to Somalia, Davis Justin, amid ongoing efforts to strengthen international support for Somalia’s security.

During the meeting at AUSSOM headquarters, the two officials discussed the overall security situation in the country, AUSSOM’s operations in Somalia, and the latest developments in the fight against Al-Shabab and the security transition plan.

The parties focused on strengthening cooperation between the African Union, the Federal Government of Somalia, and the United States, to ensure that Somalia forces are able to fully assume responsibility for the country’s security.




The meeting comes as technical meetings are underway in Addis Ababa to discuss the future of AUSSOM, particularly the challenges of funding and supporting the African Union forces in Somalia.




Both sides finally reiterated the importance of continuing close cooperation and strong partnership, expressing their commitment to supporting peace, stability, and the rebuilding of Somalia’s security institutions.
