“As parliamentarians, we have a responsibility to protect the stability of the country. You know what the extension has caused. The president’s life is in danger. Did they not know or have they forgotten? We have put our lives at risk for an extension in this country,” said Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame.

“Without doing anything for the country, what does it mean to start an extension this morning? People are surprised by us. We have a three-year opportunity, let’s work in this country to deliver an election of people and votes,” said Abdirahman Abdishakur.

MP Abdishakur was one of the MPs who opposed the motion for extension of the presidential term which was brought before the Parliament by MPs. This motion was part of the framework agreement for Somalia’s elections that was recently approved by the National Consultative Assembly.
