Ethiopia’s PM Abiy Ahmed formed a secret group that kills people who oppose his policies

According to the Reuters news agency, Abiy Ahmed’s administration has formed a secret committee that includes senior officials from Ethiopia’s largest ethnic group, the Oromo, who are in charge of eliminating the opposition to the government, in order to remove the people who rebelled against Abiy.

More than 30 officials of the federal government, local governments, court judges, lawyers and victims who spoke to the agency acknowledged the existence of this secret group called Koree Nageenyaa, which is called the security committee, which has started working. months later, when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took power in Ethiopia in 2018.




Five officials who are in charge of Abiy’s administration and former ones said that this group is the backbone of Abiy’s fight against the Oromia Liberation Front which is abbreviated as OLA.

In order to get rid of the Oromo movement, the leadership of the secret group was given to five officers from the Oromo, who are in the administration of Abiy.

The Oromo people have long been concerned about being oppressed politically and culturally, and they want to have greater freedom.




In 2019, riots broke out in the Oromia region that caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. The government of Abiy accused that the riots were behind the OLA movement denied that accusation.

One of the people who died in the violence was Milkessa Gemechu who was a member of the central committee of Abiy’s party in Barwaqo.

People who closely followed the operations of the Koree Nageenyaa secret group said that dozens of people were ordered to be killed, and hundreds of others were arrested, including the massacre of 14 people who were herdsmen in 2021. The government accused them of being behind the OLA fighters.

The evidence collected by Reuters was presented to the National Human Rights Commission of Ethiopia, the director of the commission, Daniel Bekele, admitted the existence of the secret group that Abiy targets the people who oppose his policies.




Both Abiy’s office and the Oromo administration have refused to talk about the accusations made against them, which are the massacre of the people and politicians who are in opposition to the Addis Ababa administration.

The meetings of this secret group used to take place or be held in the office of Abiy’s party in Oromia, the former director of Abiy’s office Shimelis Abdisa is leading Oromia, this man is a member of the group, there is also Fekadu Tessema, head of Abiy’s party in Oromia, head security Ararsa Merdasa and other political and security officials in the Oromia region.

In the genocide of the tribes, a former adviser to the president, such as the Oromia administration, Shimelis told Reuters that the killings and arrests of the target people were paid by the president of Oromia or the regional police chief of Ararsa, like the massacre that took place in December 2021.

The government said that the killing was related to an internal dispute, but Reuters reported that the government hid the truth of what happened, according to witnesses.

On November 30, 2021, OLA fighters killed 11 of the Ethiopian police force, while 17 others were injured after an ambush attack in the great Rift Valley in Ethiopia.

The leaders of the region and the local security who are responding to this have accused the public including traditional leaders of being in collaboration with the OLA rebellion.

The secret group that Abiy Ahmed formed to stay in power has arrested more than 1006 people in secret places, between the years 2019 and March 2022.

In a report issued by the National Human Rights Commission of Ethiopia in 2021, they said that they interviewed 281 prisoners in prisons in 21 police stations scattered throughout the Oromia region and said that Abiy’s team prevented them from get justice.
