Somalia’s foreign affairs minister, Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud, who is currently in the northern city of Galkayo in the Mudug region, is running for a seat in the Lower House of Parliament.

Minister Mohamed Abdirizak’s candidacy is said to have strong support from President Farmajo’s campaign team. Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdirizak will run for one of his clan’s seats in the Somali parliament.

According to Farmajo’s crew, Minister Mohamed Abdirizak is representing the Mudug region in the campaign team for President Farmajo’s return. The minister will lead a plan to expel members of parliament from the region into the Somali parliament, according to the report.

Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdirizak, one of the politicians most close to outgoing President Farmajo, has on several previous occasions filed complaints against the leaders of the Puntland and Jubaland states at the United Nations Security Council.

At least three times, Minister Mohamed Abdirizak has reportedly filed lawsuits against the leaders of Puntland and Jubaland during the disputed Somali elections, as they strongly opposed Farmajo’s bid for an extension.

A day earlier, the minister arrived in Galkayo and met with his clan elders in the northern part of Galkayo, Mudug region. Farmajo’s campaign team will face stiff competition to influence members of the federal parliament elected in Puntland, as the leader of the administration is deeply involved in Farmajo’s politics.
