Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad, a Somali-Kenyan commentator and scholar who was a staunch supporter of President Mohamed Abdullahi, has been abducted in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi. Abdiwahab went missing on Wednesday, August 8, according to his family, who searched all military bases, but received no information about his condition.

Unidentified men abducted Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad on Turbman Road in Nairobi, and the abductors were said to be carrying weapons and a vehicle.

Abdiwahab, a 55-year-old commentator on the Horn of Africa, has appeared in Kenyan media and the BBC Somali Service covers Somalia and Ethiopia.

According to Somali Times, Abdiwahab recently visited Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, and has since become a loyal supporter of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

His Twitter account has become a hotbed of insults against anti-President Farmajo politicians in recent days, and he is also believed to have been a strong supporter of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Abdiwahab’s sister told Kenyan media that her brother’s search had failed and that police had confirmed he was not in their custody.

Abdiwahab’s wife, Halima Mohamed, said her husband had no specific enemies suspected of abducting him, and that there was nothing wrong with her husband.

Concerns about his condition are growing, with the kidnappers and Kenyan intelligence being held hostage by unknown assailants, and he is also suspected of being assassinated.
