Mr Munya said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Somali counterpart had been in contact and would meet soon to finalize a deal to export Miraa.

“I want to make it clear to Miraa farmers that they are not disappointed. The trade agreement was not signed on Tuesday as promised, because the Somali president was in Turkey. The two presidents intend to meet soon to sign the agreement,” he said. Munya.

He said there is no doubt that Somalia is optimistic about the reopening of the Miraa market.

Kimathi Munjuri, chairman of the Miraa Crops Traders Association, said the reopening of the market would pour more than 10 million Kenyan shillings into Meru County daily.
