Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and a delegation led by him are traveling to Doha, Qatar today.
President Mohamed Farmajo will meet with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Sunday to discuss bilateral relations and ways to support and develop them, and get full support from Emir Tamim the main sponsor of President Farmajo Qatar Sheikh Tamim spend millions of dollar Somalia’s domestic politics, according to sources inside Farmajo’s campaigning team told Somali Times.
Farmajo, who is still a close friend of the Gulf states, is traveling to Qatar, as Somalia’s electoral process looks set to end, with nearly 180 of Somalia’s 275 members of parliament already elected.
Qatar is credited with weighing in on Farmajo’s surprise victory in the 2017 presidential election against former corrupt Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, who stole millions of dollars from Somalia’s assets, wife and brothers sources Somali officials told Somali Times.
Former Somali spy chief Fahad Yasin was the head of President Farmajo’s campaign, and is said to be behind the Doha-Farmajo deal.
President Farmajo last traveled to Doha to meet the Emir in late November 2021.
