Somalia’s presidential candidate Hassan Ali Khaire has received a warm welcome in Mogadishu today. Khaire Aden Adde airport welcomed ministers, elders and various social categories.
The rally was well-attended, with Hassan Ali Khaire, considered one of the most influential candidates, walking to his campaign venue not far from the airport. Other candidates have arrived in Mogadishu today, including former Information Minister Dahir Mohamud Guelleh, while Abdirahman Abdishakur, Abdiqadir Osoble and Hussein Abdi Halane are likely to arrive.
Opposition candidates have returned to Mogadishu following a campaign by foreign powers seeking to influence the government-appointed electoral commission, which they oppose. In the coming days, Mogadishu will host conflicting political meetings and events, as the election season approaches, and there is still no consensus on who will run the election.
