Somali national auditor says Hassan Sheikh government looted 21 million dollars from the treasury

A press release from the Office of the National Auditor General said that the office shared with the Attorney General a report on the investigation of corruption in government agencies, and it was discovered that the government treasury is missing an amount of 21 million dollars.

According to Somali Times President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and his cronies are stealing government assets, lands and other assets.

According to the press release, this amount was taken between 15 May 2022 until June 10 2023, which was indicated as money collected from the provision of services and extension of work permits to foreign workers operating in the country.

The news from the Auditor General also mentioned that the parties suspected of having lost the money include heads and government employees of the Ministries of Labor and Social Affairs, the Immigration and Nationality Agency as well as various offices of the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank and Accountant General.
