Somali officials who signed a Memorandum of Understanding, Presidential Candidates close to Kenya and its allies

Dr Abdi Ulusso, the former Somalia Foreign Ministry Director General, said Twitter that he had been fired for submitting the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Kenya in 2009 to the Somali Transitional Federal Parliament.

Dr Abdi Ulusso described the memo as a treason. “Sadly, though the same people who signed MOU, fired me and put Somalia’s sea waters in dispute want to come back. What, shame!” tweeted also.

Former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed distanced himself from the Memorandum of Understanding.

The International Court of Justice is to pass a judgment on the maritime dispute between Somalia and Kenya 12 October 2021.




In 2009 the former Somalia’s Minister of Planning and International Relations Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame signed the MoU on behalf of Somalia. The MoU accepted Kenya’s claim that “the delimitation of the continental shelf between the Republic of Kenya and the Somalia Republic, Hereinafter collectively referred to as “the two coastal States has not yet been settled.

This unresolved delimitation issue between the two coastal States is to be considered as a “maritime dispute”. Abdirahman Abdishakur said former Somali PM Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke told to sing Memorandum of Understanding with the former President and Prime Minister Omar Sharmarke.”
