Somali police chief Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar denied that the Somali Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have not given or denied criminal records of politicians running for parliament.

The police chief said false information had been spread on social media, and made it clear that no one had so far complained that the CID letter had been rejected.

”When we see someone, we see someone complaining. First we found out who we gave the letter to. So I can assure you that no one has been given or have been denied,” said Hijar.

Commander Hijar said the electoral security commission has not yet begun the process and vetting of parliamentary candidates and elected delegates, to determine whether they have committed crimes in the country.

“I suggest that every candidate and every member of the electorate be investigated, but the process should be the same as that of the prime minister,” Hijaar said.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has in recent days has been flooded with politicians vying for the upcoming lower house elections.
