Somali President travel to, Eritrea for a state visit




Mogadishu- President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed together with a delegation has on Saturday travelled to Asmara, the capital of Eritrea after receiving an official invitation from Eritrean State leadership, Eritrea’s information minister announced the three-day visit of Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed on Twitter, saying it comes at the invitation of Eritrea’s longtime leader Isaias Afwerki.

“At the invitation of President Isaias Afwerki, the President of the Republic of Somalia, Mohammed Abdullahi Mohammed, will pay a three-day visit to Eritrea,” Meskel said in a Twitter post, “President Mohammed Abdullahi Mohamed and his delegation are scheduled to arrive in Asmara tomorrow morning.”

According to a statement released by the office of the President, Mohamed will meet with his counterpart Isaias. Mohamed will be the second East African leader to pay a visit to Eritrea since Asmara and Addis Ababa agreed to bury the hatchet and restored their diplomatic ties. Eritrea remains under United Nations sanctions after alleged support for the Somalia-based al-Shabab militants. An accusation that Eritrea has repeatedly denied it.
