Somalia hopes of becoming a member of the African Union Security Council

Somalia’s ambassador to Ethiopia, Abdullahi Ahmed Jama said he was very hopeful that Somalia would be elected a member of the African Union Security Council.

Speaking to state media on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, the Ambassador said the Somali government had requested to join the AU Security Council for the next three years.

The election of members of the Security Council will take place this afternoon until tonight. The ambassador said he was confident of Somalia’s efforts to join the African Union Commission on Peace and Security.




“Many teams from Mogadishu and Washington have gathered at the Somali embassy to make this a success. It is in a very, very good place. We look forward to making the Somali people happy this afternoon or tonight, ”said the Somali Ambassador to Ethiopia.

Somali Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse Ali is leading a Somali delegation to the African Union summit, which will address the impact of Covid-19 disease, insecurity, and socio-economic development on the continent.
