Somalia, Sudan Sign historic agreements in Khartoum




President of the Republic of Sudan, Omar Al-Bashir, has described the Sudanese – Somali relations as firm, historic and deeply-rooted, affirming the keenness of Sudan to consolidate further its ties with Somalia in all domains. At a joint press conference he held Thursday at the Republican Palace with the visiting Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo,

President Al-Bashir said that the talks between the Sudanese and Somali sides were focused on the situation in Somalia and the efforts to end the longstanding war in this country. He indicated that the talks have also included the security situation and the role of Sudan for restoring security in Somalia, the economic situation in Somalia, the impacts of drought, the relations between Somalia and its neighboring countries and means of mobilizing support to Somalia.

Meanwhile, the Somali President has appreciated the support being extended by the Sudanese government and people to his country. He affirmed his government keenness to realize peace and stability in Somalia and to cooperate with all the circles that endeavor to help it in this connection.



He appreciated firmness of the relations between his country and Sudan, referred to support being extended by Sudan to Somalia in the field of education, especially the admission of the Somali students in the Sudanese universities. The Somali President affirmed the commitment of his government the agreements that were signed during the talks between the Sudanese and Somali sides.

On other hand the Minister of Sports and Youth, Dr. Abdul-Karim Musa and Khadija Mohamed Direi have met, While Sudanese Minister has asserted his ministry’s commitment to the guidelines announced by the President of the Republic of Sudan, in support of the communication and cooperation with the brothers in the state of Federal Somalia.



The minister has welcomed the invitation of the Somali Minister of Sports, Khadeja Mohamed Derei and her declaration of normalization of the youth and sports work between the two countries, indicating readiness of the ministry to boosting the Somali efforts for the promotion and development of the youth and sports activities.

The visiting Somali minister, accompanied by the federal minister of youth and sports, the ministry’s undersecretary, has inspected work in the sports city, the progress in work, and was briefed on work stages, the implementing bodies of the project. The minister of sports and youth has noted that the infrastructure work in the national and the states level of the country is witnessing and indicates the stability, coexistence that Sudan is enjoying, he meanwhile, extended invitation to the Somali visiting minister to attended the inauguration of the Olympic Stadium.

Meanwhile, the undersecretary of the ministry has indicated that the visit supports the bilateral relations between the two countries.
