The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station in the capital, Mogadishu.

Benadir regional deputy security commissioner Ali Abdi Wardhere issued a statement detailing the incident, saying security forces suspected the man who carried out the blast, and then fled, throwing off his seatbelt, which he noted later exploded.

“A man with an explosive belt who wanted to harm the Somali people was suspected by the security forces. He threw the explosive belt at them in pursuit, and then it exploded in the desert,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner also added that the blast injured one security officer, specifically the Somali Police. He also pointed out that a suspect had been arrested by security forces after the blast.

”One officer was injured. A suspect is in custody. We are very grateful to the security forces,” he added. In the past, there have been insecure incidents in Mogadishu, including killings and explosions that have caused various casualties.
