Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamoud addressed the media at a special session of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Somalia.

The minister said the conference focused specifically on elections and the humanitarian situation in Somalia, presenting a multi-faceted report.

Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamoud stressed the importance of implementing the September 17th agreement, which will lead to inclusive elections.

“This is not the first time we have discussed the agreement on September 17th. It is an agreement that needs to be implemented,” said Minister Abdirizak.

Speaking at the conference, United Nations Special Representative to Somalia James Swan said the agreement reached on September 17th was the best way to overcome the delay in the elections, and to ensure that Somali leaders have a clear mandate to carry out their duties.

The Minister also said they were working to bring the two administrations of Jubaland and Puntland into the talks.
