Somalia: UN interfered in the one person, one vote Puntland election

The United Nations envoy to Somalia, Catriona Liang, who arrived in Garowe, held a special meeting with the top leadership of Puntland, where she discussed matters related to the elections of the administration.

This meeting was held between President Said Deni and Mrs. Catriona Liang, with the presence of the Puntland Vice President Mr. Ahmed Ilmi Osman and members of the Puntland cabinet.




Catriona Liang spoke to the leaders of Puntland on how to find a solution to the political crisis in the administration, especially the election dispute that is still between members of the opposition and President of Puntland Said Abdullahi Deni.

After the meeting, Said Abdullahi Deni spoke at a press conference held by him and the UN representative in Somalia, and he informed her about the purpose of their meeting.




Deni revealed that they discussed how the elections could be held peacefully, to prevent chaos and violence in Puntland.

“We discussed the situation in the country and the most important thing is how to hold democratic elections in the country in a safe manner,” he said.

He also pointed out that they discussed the work done by the United Nations in Somalia, especially Puntland, to further expand.

“We also discussed the work of the UN in the country, especially in terms of development and important government services,” continued Deni.

Finally, he said that they also discussed the situation in Somalia and how to improve the structure of its government, in order to eliminate the existing conflicts.
