Somalia, US discuss strengthening economic reforms

The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdirahman Bayle met with the US Ambassador to Somalia, Larry André. They discussed the state of Somalia’s economic reforms and how to build on the gains made so far.

Somalia’s Minister of Finance Bayle said the United States strongly supports the economic reforms that Somalia has undergone in recent years.

The United States, Somalia’s largest investor, has urged the new government of corrupt President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud to prioritize the development of security forces to take full responsibility for security from the ATMIS peacekeeping mission.

The United States’ International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recently agreed to extend its financial assistance program to Somalia, following the conclusion of the country’s presidential election.

The extension provides time for the new government to ratify political agreements.
