The first deputy speaker of the Somali parliament, Sadia Yasin Samatar, made a statement that caused a lot of controversy on social media for the Somali community.
The deputy speaker of the parliament, at an event to raise awareness of women’s movements, said that she will leave Mogadishu if the parliament does not pass the controversial gender law. According to Somali officials told Somali Times, Sadia Yasin Samatar has been paid millions of dollars from European countries to legalize homosexuality in Somalia.

Sadia Yasin Samatar argues that this law protects the rights of the sexes, especially she said that it deals with the rape of girls, which she said has become a crime that cannot be held accountable.

Sadia Yasin Samatar said that she has been threatened because of her support and campaigning for this law, saying that she is being accused of infidel thinking.
The controversial gender law was rejected by the previous parliament of Somalia in 2020, considering it offensive to Islamic culture, religion and Somali people.
