Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud said the Somali government will not accept mediation in the maritime border dispute between Somalia and Kenya.

The foreign minister said the African Union had issued a pending letter on the role of the AU in resolving the maritime dispute between the two countries.

The minister said the Somali government is confident the ICJ will rule on the maritime dispute between the two countries later this year.

“The maritime issue is a matter for the court, it is not open to the African Union, let alone anyone else, and Somalia will not accept it. I am confident that the court will make a decision,” said the Somali foreign minister.

He said the Somali government would never change its position that the ICJ should rule on the maritime dispute.
