Somalia’s Speaker of the Upper House, Abdi Hashi Abdullahi said in a statement that the commissions appointed by the government for the election could never be trusted. Abdi Hashi said the commissions submitted to the government had been sidelined and instead appointed members from the office of the president, the prime minister and the National Intelligence Service (NISA).

“Most of the Dir North and federal government-appointed committees do not know the clans, and as far as they know, they are members of the presidential staff, and the office of the Prime Minister and the National Intelligence Service (NISA),” said a statement from Abdi. The Speaker of the Upper House called for intervention and re-selection of the commissions.

The allegation that government-appointed commissions were selected by the intelligence service has been leveled by Wadajir party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, and Abdi Hashi Abdullahi will be the first government official to make such allegations.
