Somalia’s disputed Electoral Commission has announced that it distributed election forms and procedures to regional administrations. The commission, which recently issued an emergency timetable for the Upper House elections, said in a statement last night that it had asked state governments to begin registering and receiving applications for Upper House candidates.

”The Federal Election Implementation Committee for 2020/21 with reference to the official publication of the implementation of the elections and giving priority to the acceleration of the country’s electoral process has distributed to the Federal Member States, the electoral procedures and forms required Candidates for the Upper House seats,” the commission said in a statement.

“The committee also called on the states to officially begin the registration and processing of applications for the Upper House. The Commission recognizes the scope of the task ahead and the responsibilities entrusted to it, and urges State Government officials to play their part in the conduct of the electoral process and to work with the commissions and the people of Somalia to ensure a successful and transparent election being open, free and fair,” the statement added.

The regional administrations that support President Farmajo’s election plan are expected to start the Upper House elections, with the South West Administration hoping to start the Upper House elections.
