The latest in Somalia: Plane crashes at Beledweyne airport

Beledweyne officials told Somali Times that a plane crashed at the airport carrying aid to the people of the region. According to reports, the plane was a cargo plane carrying aid to the flood-affected people in Hiran region. It flew from Djibouti City. Three crew members were rescued before the plane caught fire, according to Colonel Abdillahi Muse, commander of Djiboutian forces in the Hiran region.

The cause of the crash is still unknown. The plane was leased to the United Nations.
