The Somali government bans public gatherings due to Covid-19

At a joint press conference in Mogadishu, members of the Somali Cabinet and military officials warned the Somali public against rallies due to the devastating effects of Covid-19 on the country.

Somali Minister of Information Abukar Osman Dubbe along with Minister of Health and Safety, saying that by preventing the risk the government decided to allow government employees, and the public to allow assembly to prevent the spread of the disease.



Somali Times asked about the protests called by the Union of Candidates, Security Minister Hassan Xundubey Jimale said there had been no official notification from the government, although citizens were given the right to express their views by law, but no public gatherings were allowed due to the Covid-19.

The government’s decision as security forces and security agencies have been instructed to ensure compliance with all measures to prevent the spread of the disease, including a ban on community engagement.
