Somalia has said it has nothing to do with the maritime case with Kenya, restoring its diplomatic relationship. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will decide the Somali-Kenyan maritime boundary.
The move comes after hours of reports circulating on social media that the two countries were reaching an out-of-court settlement, led by Qatar. The sources added that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo will travel to Doha where he will meet with Uhuru Kenyatta to sign the agreement which is fake news.
But Somali Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohamed Guled, who is also leading Somalia’s delegation to the ICJ, said the case would be decided by the court.
“The maritime dispute will be settled by the ICJ after the hearing on March 15-18 this year. We are waiting for a fair decision. Diplomatic relations between the two countries are unique,” Mahdi said in a tweet.
