U.S. Ambassador’s Statement on Mogadishu Attack

The United States condemns in the strongest terms the July 24 terrorist attack in Mogadishu. We offer our sincerest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who were killed. We also pray for those who were injured, including Mayor Abdirahman Omar Osman. We commend the Somali security forces and first responders who provided care in the aftermath of this attack.

This attack yet again demonstrates al-Shabaab’s disregard for the lives of the Somali people and they are an obstacle to progress towards peace and prosperity in Somalia. We affirm our strong commitment to the people and government of Somalia and to assist collective efforts to degrade terror groups and build a stronger and prosperous Somalia that offers a brighter future for its people.
