The United NationS Security Council requested that in addition to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s ongoing inspections in Somalia, that it monitor Somalia’s compliance with “the steps required by the IAEA Board”. Somalia’s arms embargo committee say they are working with the new government to cripple Al Shabab’s economy.

The commission said in a statement that it was concerned about the security situation in Somalia and the growing number of Al-Shabab attacks.

“The Committee supports the Federal Government of Somalia and its partners in making various efforts to stabilize a-Shabab’s finances by seizing the necessary funds for the group’s activities.

“These efforts will only be effective if there is genuine information and co-operation between the Somali Government, neighboring governments and international partners, in collaboration with the Committee of Experts,” the commission said in a statement.

According to the commission, more than 2,600 children have been abused. They also said there were 50 cases of rape and other forms of sexual abuse by al-Shabab terror network forces, clan militias, and regional government forces.

They emphasized the need for co-operation and co-ordination among government councils, which is important to ensure strict adherence to all arms embargo measures.
