US says Hassan Sheikh government to reform its economy to complete Somalia’s debt forgiveness

US announces election in Somalia and the future of the new president. The United States congratulates the people of Somalia on the completion of the electoral process also congratulated President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud on his election as President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

“We urge President Hassan Sheikh and all Somali leaders to prioritize strengthening governance and democratic institutions; developing security forces to counter terrorism and take full responsibility for security from the ATMIS operation, ”the State Department said in a statement.




The United States has said it needs President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud’s government to reform its economy to complete Somalia’s debt forgiveness and economic recovery; and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the millions of Somalis suffering from severe drought, reconciliation and compromise.

The United States urges Somalia’s new president to form a new government in due course and work with regional leaders to achieve a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Somalia.

Somalia is most corrupted country in the world ranking number one.
