Kenyan Foreign Affairs Minister Raychelle Omamo arrived in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Sunday, her first visit to Somalia.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Raychelle Omamo will meet with her Somali counterpart Mohamed Abdirizak, Prime Minister Hussein Roble, and hold talks with President Mohamed Farmajo.

Kenya’s The Star reports that Raychelle Omamo will hold talks with Somali government officials on the long-running maritime border dispute.

“The agenda is the border dispute that is currently before the International Court of Justice,” the official told The Star.

Kenya wrote a letter to the African Union Commission on July 19, 2021 asking for technical assistance in matters related to its border with Somalia.

Kenya is pushing for political talks on Somalia’s maritime case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which finally heard it in March this year.
