Iran says a US MQ-9 Reaper drone violated their airspace in the Persian Gulf and was shot down

After CENTCOM announced that US forces had carried out “self-defense” strikes in southern Iran, Iran reported shooting down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone that had violated its airspace over the Persian Gulf, according to Anadolu Agency reported.

According to a written statement from the Revolutionary Guard Corps, an MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was detected and shot down as a result of intelligence and tracking activities carried out by Iranian air defense elements.

The statement also noted that an RQ-4 type UAV and an F-35 fighter jet were fired upon, and that the aircraft subsequently moved away from the area and left the airspace.

“The Revolutionary Guard Corps warns against any ceasefire violation that may come from the aggressive American military, and absolutely recognizes its right to respond.”
