Wadajir Party leader Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, a presidential candidate, has asked the Somali public to donate money to run in Somalia’s elections. A video recording from Warsame was published on social networking sites, saying that he needs money to compete in the elections, in order to save foreign governments and other investments, which would eventually affect government decisions and Somali politics in general.

Many are wondering why Abdirahman Abdishakur was forced to seek the support of the Somali community, which has not yet happened in Somalia’s history but is common in the rest of the developed world. The Wadajir leader is believed to have intended the move for three purposes.

1. Deviate the accusations leveled against him on several previous occasions by government supporters that he has ties to Kenya and the United Arab Emirates and provides financial support. And President Mohamed Farmajo closed down the net where the foreign financial support came from.

2. To seek a name and be the first politician to seek financial support from the people as a candidate, which shows that he is a leader who is connected to the people.

3- And to precede other politicians who are believed to have intended to announce such a plan, and these politicians are believed to include former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.

In the past few hours, there has been a lot of talk on social media and in Mogadishu about the request of Presidential Candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, which was that he needed money to run in Somalia’s elections.
