Qatar’s news agency QNA reported that the Emir of Qatar, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, had separate meetings on the phone with Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The news agency of the country of Qatar did not give any details about what the Emir of Qatar talked to the leaders of Ethiopia and Somalia and the relationship between them has been very bad in recent times.
Diplomats who have kept their names anonymous told the media that the Emir of Qatar discussed with Hassan Sheikh and Abiy Ahmed the relations and cooperation between Qatar and the two countries of Somalia and Ethiopia.
It is not yet officially known that the talks between the Emir of Qatar and the leaders of Somalia and Ethiopia were part of the resolution of the conflict between the two countries which is based on the agreement signed in January of this year by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa with the President of Hargeisa administration Muse Bihi Abdi that Ethiopia should get part of Somalia’s water in exchange for Ethiopia to recognize Hargeisa administration as an independent state.
However, the government of Somalia has strongly opposed this agreement, and it has been supported by international and regional organizations in Somalia that have equally opposed Ethiopia’s ambitions, calling for the protection of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Finally, the discussions held by the Emir of Qatar with Hassan Sheikh and Abiy Ahmed come two days after Ethiopia’s Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and the country’s intelligence chief Ridwan Hussein delivered a message to the Emir of Qatar from Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
