President Farmajo meets 130 lawmakers in Villa Somalia

The Somali members of parliament 130 members of parliament are currently meeting with Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo at the presidential palace. The lawmakers are discussing with the President the issue of the country’s elections and the process, and are opposed to the lack of information that the country will hold by-elections.

Some members of parliament, told Somali Times that they went to the President to clarify his position on the type of elections to be held in the country. The lawmakers are arguing for the implementation of the country’s electoral law, and for the election to be free and fair, according to a law previously approved by parliament and signed by the president.



The Speaker of the House of the People Mohamed Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman, who addressed the House today, strongly opposed the recent decision by the heads of state to call for a consultative election, as there can be no free and fair elections. “We cannot accept indirect elections without approving the election law. There is no place at the moment for indirect elections. The parliament has all the rules for elections, it is not a matter for regional administrations, ”said Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Mursal.
